I had to keep going back and checking whom the author was on this one... and each time I kept asking myself HOW it's possible that Ms. Fortin actually wrote this because it was nothing like her Highlander series I just finished and loved! Where to start here.... how about repetition and rehashing of the same thoughts over and over or the inner dialogue between character interactions that go on and on and on OR the ridiculous amount of detail on clothing, surroundings, skin, eyes, lips, etc, etc..... I wanted to yank my hair out! I am all about details, but this really took the cake. It's as if this was done just to make the word count quota. The characters were weak, the plot was typical with nothing new to it, the long awaited sex scene was so drawn out I lost interest and skipped it altogether, which I will rarely do! My recommendation is to not waste your time or money, read the highlander series and be done.

I read all 6 of her time travel books but this one to me was the best and I loved the way it ended. I felt so bad for Mikah ,when she went to the tomb of Ian and Hero , I think this was the first time in the many books I read that I couldn't stop the tears. She is such a great historical writer. I even went back to the first 2 books in the series ,that I had already read 2 years ago and enjoyed them just as much as the first time.
I have read many time travel books but can count on one hand my favorites. Three of those because of the unexpected ending. Now I can add this one to the list. I enjoyed the history of the castle as the author puts a lot of work into that part of her books. I also enjoy the authors page where she verifies even more of the historical facts to modern day reality. But the ending in this book made the story special and more than just your average time travel book where the hero wins the fair maiden etc. For any that didn't enjoy this story, I would counsel to read no more time travel books and stick to what you enjoy...because this was one of the better ones. I'm waiting for the audio people to put this on their list.
This is the third book of Angeline Fortin's time travel romance novels that I have read. I enjoyed the first one "A Laird for All Time" and thought the second novel "Nothing But Time" was even better. I didn't think I was going to like "My Heart's in the Highlands" because I did not become interested in the story until I was about 20% through it. I persisted on to the second section of the book only because I liked the first two books. Now I'm glad I stayed with it. I really loved the story from there to the ending. I thought the second book was more character driven. In "My Heart's in the Highlands" I was pulled into the emotional feelings and intimacy of the characters. It was a bitter-sweet, heart breaking love story with intensity, intrigue, desperation and redemption. The ending was well developed and satisfying. As with many of the rush to digital print books, editing and proofing errors were problematic.
I'm a fan of all historical fiction but there is something about historical time travel that I love. It's the theory of a love so great that it conquers time itself. However with this genre I have had the most disappointments. An author has to be unbelievably talented to write a good historical romance time travel, they have to make the reader believe that this one love is so great that time itself will bend to it. Angelina Fortin is that writer. I have yet to find another writer that lives up to my expectations the way she does.
My Heart in the Highlands is my all time favorite. This will be the third time I have read it. It has been at least 2 years since I have revisited it and still I can remember how earth shattering it was. Never has a book taken me on such an emotional rollercoaster like this one. I get more than a few crazy looks from my family when reading this book, it's a book that you get so swept up in that you laugh out loud and sob like a baby all while sitting on the edge of your seat. It makes me forget that I'm the only reader in my family and not one person can understand how words can produce such an emotional response from me.
